Dom Pérignon – The legend behind the champagne

Dom Pérignon is one of the most famous names in the world of champagne. Renowned for luxury and elegance, each bottle tells a story of tradition, innovation, and timeless quality.

Did you know that Dom Pérignon was actually a person? Pierre Pérignon, better known as Dom Pérignon, was a 17th-century Benedictine monk who lived at the Abbey of Hautvillers in France. While he didn't invent Champagne, he made significant contributions to improving its production. Dom Pérignon developed methods to enhance the quality of the wine—such as blending different grape varieties and using corks for better preservation.

Centuries later, his name lives on. The Dom Pérignon champagne brand was created by Moët & Chandon. The first Vintage was produced in 1921 and released in 1936. Today, Dom Pérignon is considered one of the world's finest Vintage champagnes.

What makes it so special? Dom Pérignon is always a Vintage champagne – it is only produced in exceptional years and exclusively with grapes from a single harvest. The classic blend consists of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir and combines finesse, depth, and the finest bubbles. Each bottle matures for at least eight years before it is released.

Some rare editions, such as P2 and P3, even mature for up to 20 years. P2 , also called "Plénitude 2", is aged for around 15 years and then re-released at perfect maturity – more intense, vibrant, and mineral than the original Vintage.

Fun fact: Dom Pérignon was served at Lady Diana's wedding – and is often the first choice for special occasions.
