Inside Burgundy
Buy Jasper Morris's Inside Burgundy — and hold in your hands the definitive reference work on the world's most complex wine region. Jasper Morris has been a Master of Wine since 1985, a Burgundy expert for over four decades, and was Burgundy Director at Berry Bros. & Rudd from 2003 to 2017. No other English-language author has penetrated this region so deeply.
This second edition, published in 2021 by Berry Bros. & Rudd Press, has grown considerably since the award-winning first edition of 2010—now comprising 800 pages. Morris describes over 1.200 vineyards, 300 wine villages, and 700 domaines, all completely revised and updated. Particularly valuable are the 45 color maps, including six new ones, which show parcel-by-parcel ownership details of individual Grand Cru and Premier Cru vineyards—a level of detail previously unmatched in any English-language work. Both editions were awarded the André Simon Prize.
What distinguishes Inside Burgundy is its rare combination of encyclopedic knowledge and personal voice. Morris tells the stories of the vincerons, their families, the convoluted legacies, and the philosophical differences between the domaines. He addresses controversial topics—climate change, overripeness, problematic winemaking practices—openly and without diplomatic restraint. Tamlyn Currin of JancisRobinson.com praised the book as a masterful demystification of an often romanticized region.
