About the manufacturer
Ridge vineyards
Ridge Vineyards is a legendary California winery in the Santa Cruz Mountains, renowned for its exceptional, characterful Wines since 1959. The winery has made a name for itself with its Cabernet Sauvignon blends – most notably the famous Montebello, which is considered one of the finest American Red Wines.
What makes Ridge special is its unconventional philosophy: While many Californian wineries embrace international styles, Ridge maintains its own path. The Wines are structured, elegant, and built for aging – they display depth rather than mere fruit. You won't find over-extracted, powerful Wines here, but rather classics with balance and complexity.
The winery uses grapes from several vineyard sites, which lends complexity to the Wines. Their philosophy is close to natural winemaking, and yields are deliberately kept low. Ridge stands for authenticity in a region often driven by trends.
Do you appreciate great American Wines with European elegance and history? At Wine In Time you'll find Ridge classics from a retailer who understands and lives this philosophy.

The Ridge Vineyards Montebello 2005 is a legend from the Santa Cruz Mountains in California. The long-established Ridge Vineyards winery cultivates a classic Bordeaux blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petit Verdot, and Cabernet Franc at an altitude of over 800 meters. This elevation and the barren limestone soils give the Montebello its unique minerality and concentration. Bring a piece of Californian wine history home with this convenient 0,375l bottle.
Vinification follows strictly traditional methods: spontaneous fermentation with natural yeasts, extended maceration, and subsequent aging in American oak. Ridge deliberately avoids filtration and gentle sulfuring to preserve the authentic character of the terroir. The 2005 Vintage is considered exceptional – ideal ripening conditions resulted in perfectly balanced grapes with concentrated aromas.
On the nose, a complex bouquet of dark berries, cassis, and cedar unfolds, accompanied by subtle tobacco notes and a hint of graphite. The palate reveals a powerful structure with silky tannins perfectly integrated into the dense fruit. Blackcurrant and blackberry harmonize with spicy nuances of clove and bay leaf. The finish is long, elegant, and remarkably precise – a wine with great aging potential.
