The 2006 Achs Paul Spiegel is a mature Blaufränkisch from Burgenland that perfectly showcases the elegance of this variety. Paul Achs is one of the most sensitive winemakers on Lake Neusiedl, and this wine from the Spiegel vineyard impressively demonstrates how brilliantly Blaufränkisch can age. The magnum bottle has given the wine additional harmony and depth – after almost two decades, it has reached its perfect drinking peak.
The wine was aged classically in large wooden casks, without excessive barrique influence. Extended bottle aging has given the wine a silky texture, and the tannins are fully integrated. Vinification followed the traditional Burgenland style: gentle, patient, and with respect for the fruit and the terroir of the Spiegel vineyard.
On the nose, the 2006 Achs Paul Spiegel presents itself with a light perfumed aroma of dried cherries, bay leaf, and a delicate forest floor scent.
