Quinta la Terrugem 1997

The Bacalhoa Quinta la Terrugem 1997 is an exceptional rarity from the Portuguese Douro . With this Cabernet Sauvignon, the renowned Bacalhoa winery proved as early as the late 1990s that Portugal is capable of far more than just Port wine. After more than two decades of aging, this wine presents itself as a testament to great winemaking skill and patient cellar care.

The Bacalhoa Quinta la Terrugem 1997 comes from old vines in the historically rich Douro Valley. The grapes were hand-harvested in an exceptional Vintage and vinified using traditional methods. Extended aging in French oak barrels gave the wine its remarkable structure and complexity. This rare, differentially taxed wine demonstrates the elegant way in which Portuguese Wines can age.

On the nose, a captivating blend of dried fruit, leather, tobacco, and delicate spice notes unfolds. Despite its age, the wine still displays impressive power on the palate: rich and intense, with silky tannins and a ripe fruit structure. Notes of plum, blackcurrant, and cedar meld with tertiary aromas to create a complex and layered flavor experience. The finish is long, spicy, and characterized by elegant maturity.
