About the manufacturer
Macallan
The Macallan distillery in Speyside, Scotland, is one of the world's most legendary and influential whisky producers. Since its founding in 1824, Macallan has focused on excellence and craftsmanship – a philosophy that is still evident in every bottle today.
What sets Macallan apart is its unwavering focus on quality over quantity. The distillery uses small copper pot stills and works with carefully selected casks to create whiskies of distinctive complexity. The typical Macallan style is characterized by elegant fruit aromas, subtle oak spice, and a velvety texture – unmistakable and timeless.
The Double Cask series we carry perfectly showcases Macallan's modern approach: The 12-year-old matures in ex-bourbon and European sherry casks, offering a perfect balance of vanilla, honey, and dried fruit. It's approachable without sacrificing depth – ideal for those looking to enter the world of premium single malts or deepen their understanding of whisky.
At Wine In Time you get authentic Macallan quality from a supplier who, like you, appreciates true whisky culture.

Spicy and sweet
The Macallan Double Cask 12 Year Old from the Scottish Highlands combines masterful craftsmanship with traditional cask maturation. The renowned Macallan distillery matures this single malt Scotch whisky for twelve years in a carefully balanced combination of American and European sherry casks. This double cask maturation gives the whisky its characteristic complexity and makes it a classic among Scottish spirits.
The vinification follows the strict standards of the Macallan distillery. American oak casks previously filled with American sherry are maturated alongside European sherry casks made of Spanish oak. This dual maturation process, spanning twelve years, creates a balanced interplay between the spicy notes of the European casks and the sweet vanilla characteristics of the American oak. At 43% ABV, this single malt is powerful without sacrificing elegance.
On the nose, honey-drenched aromas of dried fruit, subtle spice notes, and a hint of oak unfold. The palate reveals a spicy-sweet harmony: creamy vanilla meets citrus zest, followed by ginger and dark chocolate. The finish is medium-long, warm, and smooth with lingering sherry notes that slowly give way to spicy oak tones.
