In the Hochrain vineyard, the vines grow on weathered primary rock with a high mica content. These mineral soils shape the wine down to the last detail: The grapes are harvested late, spontaneously fermented, and aged in large wooden barrels. No fining or filtration whatsoever – pure craftsmanship that lets nature take its course and gives the wine time to develop its complexity.
On the nose, a firework display of yellow stone fruit, mirabelle plum, and apricot unfolds, underpinned by flinty minerality and a hint of beeswax. On the palate, the 2009 Franz Hirtzberger Hochrain displays impressive density and structure: juicy fruit meets cool minerality, supported by vibrant acidity and a saline depth.
