About the manufacturer
Franz Hirtzberger
Franz Hirtzberger is one of the most renowned wineries in the Wachau, that legendary wine region on the Danube world-famous for its mineral-driven, precise White Wines. For generations, the estate has cultivated terraces with vines, some over 50 years old, in prime locations such as Honivogl, Steinporz, and Singerriedel – names you'll find on many of their bottles.
What distinguishes Hirtzberger is its unmistakable style: Grüner Veltliner and Riesling of extreme elegance and vibrancy, directly reflecting the slate, gneiss, and loess of their origin. The Wines are not opulent, but rather taut and dynamic – they show you what great Austrian White Wine can be. The winery works with a strong sense of tradition, respects the nature of its vineyards, and lets the grapes speak for themselves, rather than over-processing them.
With 27 products in our range, you have the opportunity to discover the full spectrum of this classic wine – from powerful to delicate, mineral interpretations. At Wine In Time, you'll find Hirtzberger Wines that will transport you directly to the steep slopes of the Wachau.

The Franz Hirtzberger Singerriedel Riesling Smaragd 2016 comes from one of the Wachau 's most prestigious vineyards and impressively demonstrates what top-quality Austrian Riesling means. The Franz Hirtzberger winery is among the region's leading producers and cultivates the Singerriedel vineyard with meticulous care and time-honored expertise. The steep terraces with their weathered primary rock soils shape this wine's structure and minerality.
The grapes for this Smaragd were harvested late and reached optimal physiological ripeness. After gentle pressing, vinification took place in large wooden barrels, where the wine developed its characteristic depth and complexity. The 2016 Vintage is considered outstanding in the Wachau – cool, elegant, and possessing a magnificent acid structure.
On the nose, the 2016 Franz Hirtzberger Singerriedel displays green nuances of lime and apple peel, accompanied by flinty minerality and delicate herbal notes. On the palate, it unfolds with powerful precision: taut, dense, with vibrant acidity and a salty-mineral grip. The finish is long, cool, and lingering – a wine that needs time and rewards it.
