Corton Charlemagne
The Bonneau du Martray Corton Charlemagne Grand Cru 2018 comes from one of Burgundy 's most prestigious vineyards – the legendary Corton-Charlemagne hill, named after Charlemagne. Bonneau du Martray cultivates over nine hectares of this Grand Cru site biodynamically and is one of the oldest family-owned wineries in the region. The Chardonnay grapes grow on calcareous soils, which impart the wine's characteristic minerality and elegance.
The grapes are harvested by hand and gently pressed. Vinification takes place in oak barrels, with the proportion of new wood deliberately kept to a minimum to preserve the purity of the fruit and the expression of the terroir. The wine then matures on its fine lees, which lends it additional texture and complexity. Bonneau du Martray forgoes malolactic fermentation to maintain the wine's natural freshness and vibrancy.
On the nose, the 2018 Bonneau du Martray Corton Charlemagne displays delicate aromas of white blossoms, ripe pears, and citrus fruits, underpinned by a pronounced minerality. On the palate, it is precise and complex, with vibrant acidity, a creamy texture, and notes of hazelnut and white pepper. The finish is long, taut, and impressively deep – a wine that can age for years to come.
