Corton Charlemagne
The Bonneau du Martray Corton Charlemagne Grand Cru 2019 is among Burgundy's finest White Wines and embodies the pure essence of this legendary vineyard. The Bonneau du Martray estate has cultivated one of the most important parts of the Corton-Charlemagne hill in the Côte de Beaune for generations , a vineyard where even Charlemagne cultivated vines. The Chardonnay vines are rooted in calcareous soils with a high mineral content, which give this Grand Cru its distinctive depth.
The grapes are hand-harvested at optimal ripeness and vinified with utmost care. Aging takes place traditionally in French oak barrels, with the winery employing a restrained approach to oak to preserve the mineral purity of the terroir. The 2019 Bonneau du Martray Corton Charlemagne spends several months on its fine lees, which lends it additional complexity and a creamy texture.
On the nose, a captivating bouquet of ripe pears, hazelnut, and white blossoms unfolds, underpinned by a subtle toasty note and mineral accents. On the palate, the wine is buttery and complex, with perfectly integrated acidity and impressive structure. The finish is exceptionally long and characterized by a saline minerality – a sign of its great terroir.
